Buying anything new can be very exciting yet at the same time it can be very stressful and frustrating. This is especially true with purchasing new running shoes. Should you purchase a new pair of shoes just because the price is right? You shouldn't. Also, don't just purchase a new pair of shoes because the look is right! Manufacturers have three different categories for shoes. they include Cushioning, Stability, and Motion Control. Stability shoes offer a balance between cushioning and motion control. If you are a runner with a normal arch, then this shoe is for you. However, if you are unsure of what category your feet fall in, then this is where you should start. Motion control shoes are for runners who really need support. Extreme pronators and over pronators can take advantage of a Motion control shoe. In addition, if you are a runner with weak ankles and or other foot problems, you would benefit from a motion control shoe because of the stability. Although there are three categories above, there's still much room for variation. This is meant to be a quick guide for those interested in purchasing running shoes. I would still recommend that you speak to an employee at a running store for sound advice. They can give you a good idea of which shoe category you fall under. If you have had a foot injury or have other foot problems, I recommend you speak to a foot specialist first before you go and purchase a new pair of running shoes.
