There are two vital factors required for fitness maintenance.
Eating healthy is the first factor.
Many dietitians believe five small meals a day actually make good sense. They find eating more frequently help us maintain a steady energy level throughout the day. It tends to assist in a constant balance of sugar levels. Also, it can reduce food cravings. Many food craving occur due to an imbalance in what we eat, how much we eat and when we eat.
Including all food groups are part of conserving fitness. Fruits, vegetables, grains, meats and dairy are all necessary elements to eating healthy. Fruits, vegetables and grains give us much needed fiber. Meats give us protein to build and maintain strong muscles. Dairy benefits our skeletal structure and more.
Physical activity is the other component of fitness that is vital.
Choose a way to stay active. Play your favorite sport. It does not have to be a contact sport. For example, golfing requires walking distances to the next ball. There are countless non-contact sports to consider. However, if you enjoy contact sports, joining a team is a great way to meet new friends. Take a walk. It is a great way to continue the fitness that naturally came with you when you were born. Walking is also less stressful on our joints. Which needs to be considered if you have arthritis? If walking is too slow paced for you, jog. Put on a set of headphones, tune into music that will pump up your energy level and go. Even something, that appears to be slow paced, like yoga, has many benefits that aid us in maintaining fitness.
Regardless of your age, always check with your physician if you are just starting a fitness program.
What you do with your "given" fitness is up to you! Fitness for life is a possibility if you eat healthy and stay physically active. Remember, moderation is the key. Eat in moderation and moderate activity is all you need to preserve fitness for Life.
