The Various Signs of Hemorrhoids
By Brad Grayson

As with any and all medical conditions that our bodies become afflicted with throughout the course of our lives, there are telltale symptoms that something is wrong. This is also true if we develop hemorrhoids. However, the signs of hemorrhoids can often be a bit alarming and, even though the hemorrhoids themselves are rather benign in nature, you should be checked out by your family physician if you suspect that you have hemorrhoids in an effort to rule out a more serious medical condition. This is the case because one of the primary signs of hemorrhoids is bleeding from the rectal area. Often this blood is bright red which indicates that it is fresh and quite usually signifying hemorrhoids, but any time there is blood from the anal area, it should be taken very seriously until a proper diagnosis can be made. This is true because there are many other serious diseases that have anal bleeding as a primary symptom including colon and anal cancers.

Often times, especially with internal hemorrhoids, bleeding is one of the only signs of hemorrhoids and will show up during a bowel movement either on the toilet paper or the stool itself. Sometimes, however, the bleeding is accompanied by additional symptoms such as itching, pain and swelling in the anal area that can set your mind at ease with regards to the cause of the anal bleeding. If you have one or more of these signs of hemorrhoids, there are measures you can take -- upon proper diagnosis -- that will alleviate and reduce your pain and swelling and in many cases, shrink the hemorrhoids significantly enough that you can avoid any drastic medical intervention, such as surgery.

Once you have seen the signs of hemorrhoids, and your doctor has confirmed your suspicions, one of the easiest ways to help yourself is by changing your diet to increase your fiber intake, This will help regulate your system and prevent the hemorrhoids from getting worse. In the meantime, to reduce the external burning, itching, swelling and pain hemorrhoids can cause, it is prudent to apply an over the counter medication to the area as often as indicated so you do not have to suffer while you are waiting for your hemorrhoids to heal.
