Many people every day make the decision to try and lose weight. It can be just a few pounds to feel a little slimmer and fit in old clothes or it could be a major weight loss campaign to try and shed of 30-40 lbs. Whatever the reason or motivation it helps you two-fold. You will feel much better about yourself when you meet your goal and getting rid of excess weight is great to keep you healthy. Out of the top 10 leading ways people die, over half of them are related to people being over weight. So not only will it make you feel good to shed some pounds, it can save your life.

This article is to help you see that being over weight is not good for your health and making the choice to lose weight may be best to maintain a good quality of life. First you have to consider the risks of being overweight. There is great motivation in actually knowing what over eating does to your body to remind you to have better eating habits. Having extra weight on your body puts a lot of extra stress on your muscles and organs. Your heart has to pump more blood and faster. Your lungs have to work harder to get the oxygen they need and your bones have more stress to keep you going. The best way to imagine the toll your body takes from having extra weight is to picture yourself carrying around two gallon jugs of water, everywhere you go. It gets tiring after awhile and so does your body.

You may not think it is a big deal now to have extra weight and that you will lose it sometime in the future when you are ready but just keep in mind that the longer you have it, the more likely it is going to cause your problems later down the road.

Diabetes is one of the diseases people that are over weight end up with. The statistics show that 8 out of every 10 people that have type 2 diabetes are obese. That one fact alone shows that having extra weight stored on your body puts you at high risk for getting diabetes. Losing as few as 10 pounds can greatly lessen the chance of you getting diabetes. Even if you already have diabetes, losing extra weight can greatly help with your blood levels.

One of the main ways people are affected by obesity is heart disease. Obesity is seen in 7 out of every 10 people with heart disease. Some people think you have to be highly obese to get heart disease but just being 20 pounds overweight doubles your chances of getting heart disease later on in life. Losing just 5% of your weight dramatically helps lower risk of hear related disease and problems.

These are just a few examples of some health related problems you could run into later on in your life if you are overweight. It is a little bit of motivation to take better care of yourself and to practice a more healthy lifestyle.
